Greetings from Dublin! I’m Brittany, a third-year student at Northeastern University. The 20 of us studying through CIEE Dublin have been here for over three weeks now. At the same time, it feels like we just got here and like we’ve been living here for much longer. The group gets along really well-- we have been adjusting pretty well and have definitely been enjoying all sorts of experiences here.
Some quick background about me: when I was studying in the Dominican Republic for a month this past summer (which was definitely one of the greatest experiences of my life), I got a feeling that I had to be in Ireland for the spring semester. I chose CIEE because of the option to do a part-time internship. Immediately, I began reading every single blog written by CIEE Ireland participants that I could find. I also began watching every Irish movie I could find. A lot of them were about The Troubles, so I am eager for our CIEE field trip to Northern Ireland in April. Two years ago, I visited Belfast for a couple of days after studying in Spain for a month. Unfortunately I was sick, so I didn’t really get to experience the city. I am very excited to be able to put all of the films I’ve been watching in context as we make the transition from tourists to Dubliners and as we travel the country.
